Reservation system notes

Post by redrocksguide » Sun Oct 25, 2020 12:58 pm

1) Entry to the scenic drive can be made from 6am to 8am without using the reservation system.
2) There will be a firm cut-off time at 8am, regardless of when you get into line.
3) All the canyons from Pine Creek going south can still be accessed from Route 159 and Route 160.
4) If reservation time slots are available, you can get them at the entrance fee station from Monday to Thursday when you drive up. Friday to Sunday they must be purchased online (note: internet barely works at the entrance fee station).
5) My general impression is that mid-week during non-holiday periods the reservation system isn't much of a problem. Holidays and weekends it is best to have reservations in advance or consider alternatives such as the southern canyons or checking out the huge number of limestone zones in the area around Las Vegas (covered in an upcoming guidebook, Mojave Limestone).
6) Plans are in place to begin charging access fees for Calico Basin.
7) If you have a Red Rocks annual pass or an "America The Beautiful" pass you do not have to pay the $15 entry fee. Look for the "Add A Pass" button (you might have to scroll down a little) on the "order details" page which is the last page before checkout.
